OUR MISSION

Camp Bluebird originated in 1985 in Birmingham, Alabama as a retreat for adult cancer survivors. Since then, franchises have been sold, using the Camp Bluebird name, and over 36 cancer retreats were started in various parts of the country. Our local Camp Bluebird of Western North Carolina began in 1993 when an oncology nurse from Mission Hospital and a representative from Bellsouth (our local telephone company at the time) traveled to Birmingham to buy a Camp Bluebird franchise.

Since 1993, Camp Bluebird has been very fortunate with funding from the Mission Healthcare Foundation and Pisgah Healthcare Foundation as well as with volunteers and service from those throughout our community.

For over 20 years, the annual camp has been held at the Bonclarken Conference Center in historic Flat Rock, North Carolina. Situated in the beautiful mountains of WNC and near downtown Hendersonville, the campers are immersed in connecting with one another as well as taking part in various crafts, music, activities, and more.

Camp Bluebird is a special program that can benefit survivors at any point throughout their cancer journey. Whether they are newly diagnosed, going through treatment, at the end of their treatment plan, dealing with a reoccurrence, or in the final stages of their disease, Camp Bluebird has something to offer EVERY survivor at ANY time.
